Manga fans, the time has come to say goodbye to another of the great ones. Author ONE, who wrote Mob Psycho 100, has penned his very last chapter of the series. The saga began all the way back in April 2012 for a brilliant five-year run all the way up to this December 22. It spanned 15 volumes over those years, but was only recently adapted into an anime by Bones (Soul Eater, My Hero Academia, Fullmetal Alchemist). The manga will get one last sendoff in the form of a live-action adaptation in January.

But that’s enough sad news. Two other well-loved manga series, Fist of the Blue Sky and Rurouni Kenshin, have renewed themselves this last October. Fist of the Blue Sky is a prequel manga series to Fist of the North Star centered on Kasumi Kenshiro, a professor in Tokyo who’s also the successor to a martial art used for assassinations. It features in Monthly Comic Zenon.

Rurouni Kenshin has been a very long time coming back – 18 years, if you can believe it. But it’s bringing with it the brand new Hokkaido story arc following the prologue chapters from Jump Square magazine last year. Don’t expect a very long wait before the anime adaptation. By the way, if you were awaiting the Rurouni Kenshin live adaptation that was going to happen, you can crumple up those plans and toss them in the garbage – the show’s been canceled.

It seems there’ve been lots of endings lately, so it’s even more important to acknowledge the manga that make their return to the spotlight. It shows that a revival can happen, no matter how long it’s been. So if your favorite manga or anime finds itself suddenly blotted out, never forget that as long as there are authors and animators in the industry, there’s always a chance, even for a spinoff.
