Say goodbye to drowning

There are many items that return in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, but one of the most beloved ones is the Otter Hood, and no, this time, Conan O’Brien isn’t the one handing it out. For the sequel, players have to wait a bit before reaching the area where the prepper who handles this item is, and even then, find a way to cross some treacherous waters. But if you manage to do so, Sam will get one of the most iconic and helpful items in the game. Just make sure not to wear it during serious cutscenes.

Finding The Inventor

The Otter Hood in Death Stranding 2 is a missable and optional item that can only be obtained once you are in Australia and have reached West Fort Knot (F1) and Mine North of F1. After arriving at these locations, Sam will be free to use the brand-new monorail. However, if you do use it to skip the large body of water, you’ll miss the prepper who has this reward.

To find the Inventor, you need to walk northeast from Mine North of F1. If you open your map, you’ll see the coastline and a small island to the north. To reach the island, you can bring a vehicle, preferably an Off-Roader, and use the Odradek to scan the water. Follow the yellow indicators to reach the island. Once you bring the Inventor into the network, you’ll obtain the Otter Hood.

What Does the Otter Hood Do?

Besides being the cutest item in Death Stranding 2, the Otter Hood also helps Sam when swimming. In the unfortunate case of Sam being dragged by the water, this hood prevents Sam from drowning. However, you need to equip it for it to have an effect. You can do so by going to your cosmetics, which you can open by pressing Left on the D-Pad and equipping the hood. Since it works like any other hood in a porter’s suit, Sam will use it whenever it starts to rain.

Besides the hood, I also recommend increasing your connection level with the Inventor. Doing so will unlock stun bombs, but also the powerful Bola Stun Gun, which is one of the most useful items in the game, especially if you’re going the sneaky route in most of your deliveries.
