Boss in Alaska Physically Assaults Female Employee, Then Tries To Deny It: ‘Call the Police’

How is it that he managed to climb to that position?

Sometimes a person’s day to day needs are so great that the only thing they can do is endure difficult work conditions to make ends meet. The most disheartening aspect is that these challenging conditions can sometimes become inhumane. As happened in this Reddit case, in Alaska, a boss assaulted his female employee. This is treatment that absolutely no one deserves and under no circumstances should suffer.

Boss Grabbed By My Face and Screamed at Me. What now?
byu/NoPlan1000 inlegaladvice

Redditor NoPlan1000 shared on r/legaladvice how it all started when she began working at a seasonal job in a remote island lodge. From the beginning, OP’s boss started harassing her, but she thought that since she was on a temporary job, she could tolerate his micromanaging comments and other unpleasant attitudes. However, everything took a very different turn when this boss in Alaska started insulting and yelling at this female employee, but it escalated until he physically assaulted her. The boss kept yelling at OP, even in front of other employees, and he got so close that he ended up sticking his nose in OP’s face while yelling at her. Then the boss squeezed OP’s face, pressing hard on her jaw.

Fortunately, OP reacted and pushed her boss away from her, telling him never to touch her again. But the boss threw up his hands and, with a gesture of surprise, started shouting that OP was crazy and that everyone should see her in that state. OP immediately left the scene and then spoke with the GM, who instructed her to wait for HR to call her. To make matters worse, the boss went to OP’s cabin to “deny that he did anything wrong, and he didn’t put his hands on me.” Even though others saw the whole thing happen, that’s why the OP wanted to explore other options she has.

Call the police. Report that you were assaulted.

Exactly. That was absolutely assault, and OP has every right to report it. No one should feel unsafe at work, especially from someone in power. Going to the police is the right move here.

Many of the users agreed that OP did suffer an assault and that she should file charges with the police, regardless of what her company’s human resources department does. Some other redditors mentioned that assault and battery charges are classified in the same category under Alaska law. This boss should not be in that position or working with more people, especially since he has had these attitudes for a long time.
