Massachusetts College Student Sets Girl on Fire at Frat Party, Causing Life-Threatening Burns: ‘They Should Be Expelled’

Not the explosive party anyone was hoping for

Things can get pretty wild at college frat parties, but what no one was expecting was for someone to pour a highly flammable alcohol straight into a bonfire. As one would expect, the result was a massive blast of flames, burning everything and everyone around it, turning the Massachusetts City college party into a dangerous explosive one. One poor girl caught in the detonation was one 22-year-old Yvette Digan, who wasn’t even involved with the careless individual dousing the fire.

“We were minding our own business and having a conversation when the unthinkable happened,” Digan recalled, according to WXFT. “Out of nowhere, I was set on fire and screaming,” she continued, detailing the horrifying sequence. “It all became blurry, and I felt like I couldn’t feel my body or speak.” In this tragic event, much of Digan’s body was charred to a very serious degree, with burns all over her body. Needless to say, her life was changed for the worse, as she’s now hospitalized with lots of physical and financial troubles ahead of her. Her parents have set up a GoFundMe program to seek help from generous donors online.

You might imagine the family would seek legal action against the person who poured the strong Everclear alcohol into the bonfire. Instead, they are looking to sue the Everclear company, Luxco. They claim the warning labels are visible enough on the bottle’s print, making it hard for consumers, like the college students, to know that the drink is so dangerous around flames. Still, many online users on Reddit believe the family is going after the wrong target. “She should sue the guy who lit the fire not the one who made alcohol with alcohol in it,” remarked a Redditor.

Another user explains the reasoning behind going after Luxco: “From a common sense point of view, it’s a bulls**t lawsuit. But I get why she is doing it.” They go on, explaining how the company is the only entity that would have the necessary funds to pay for all the healthcare costs her treatment and physical therapy will accumulate. Simply put, “the guy who did it wouldn’t be able to pay.” Still, hopefully, the boy who decided that pouring alcohol into an open flame was a good idea will receive some sort of punishment, as stupidity should still warrant consequences. “They should be expelled,” as one commenter suggests.
