Driving for Uber or any other taxi-cab-like company has only grown in popularity over the years. However, for this Ohio man, his experience with being an Uber driver isn’t necessarily pleasant. Luckily, the man then recorded a TikTok video describing what had just happened to him. The video has since gone viral with around 14K views. The clip shows the man warning the internet regarding potential scams, as he goes into detail regarding one he might have encountered.
The TikTok video begins with the Ohio Uber driver explaining that he had a pick-up confirmed for a 16-mile trip. The app had also listed the total for the journey to be around $43, as the driver’s vehicle was allegedly listed as a “luxury car.” When the driver finally arrives to pick up the customer, they are not as expected. The name for the pickup was reportedly listed as “Jessica,” however, it turned out to be a man, although the driver would state that this “happens a lot.”
Despite the clear mix-up, the customer had also allegedly asked the driver if he wanted to purchase some drugs. In the video, the Uber driver states that the customer then let them know that they had just gotten out of prison around six months ago. The customer was said to be in prison for “eight years,” according to the video. Selling drugs is what is said to have landed the customer in prison, as mentioned in the TikTok. The video’s comment section was filled with jokes regarding the situation, however. “Drive his a** straight back to prison,” wrote one.
Ohio Uber Driver Dodges This Customer’s Attempted Scam
As the ride continues, the Ohio man claims the customer is still attempting to sell him drugs, despite his clear no, thank you. After finally dropping the man off at his destination, the driver would give the customer a one-star rating and list “conversation” as the reason why. Although this is not where the story would end for the Ohio man. Shortly after accepting a new ride, he would receive a strange phone call.
The person on the other end allegedly claimed to be from Uber and was asking the driver for his license plate number. This would reportedly let the driver know something was up right away. However, “I went along with the game anyhow,” states the driver in the TikTok video. The person on the phone then begins to promise the man bonuses and more money to put the ride down as an “accidental pick-up“, although the driver already knew that Uber as a company would never do this.
The Ohio Uber driver then confirms that he reported the incident to Uber, and they are looking into it. However, by also posting a TikTok regarding what happened, his voice can be heard by even more people. This Uber Driver’s PSA via social media has worked to spread awareness of this kind of scam. Hopefully, the driver won’t have to deal with something like this again anytime soon.
