Imagine you’re just a Black man in Florida trying to exist and make some sales at your job. Now, imagine you arrive at a home to hopefully talk to some potential customers. Instead, you’re met with outright hatred and chaos. This is what happened to a salesman in Orlando when he approached a home, not knowing what awaited him inside were a bunch of racist Karens waiting to completely upend his day.
The disturbing video, captioned, “Working in sales can be challenging – especially as a Black professional. Sometimes it feels like you’re pushing through much more than just the job,” was posted by Antavis (@3busted_mindjizzzz on TikTok). It shows Antavis walking away from a bunch of screaming White people after he just knocked on their front door. In the video, you can see the salesman remaining calm. Meanwhile, he’s recording over his shoulder as the white Karens throw slurs and threats in his direction.
The salesman While he’s walking away from the white couple and their home, they’re yelling the N-word at him. They told him to “get your Black a** out of here,” and screaming, “I’ll f****** hang you’re a**!” as well as numerous other threats. The woman approaches him from another angle and tells the salesman she “hopes you show your employer.”
A commenter who saw the video said the woman living at the household is a registered pharmacy technician in Florida. So, it’s obvious someone showed her employer how she acts around black people. This video is a good example of how it can virtually be dangerous to be a black person living or working around white people if you meet the wrong person. Racism can be dangerous, leading to violent acts against POC in a matter of seconds, as we’ve learned from past events.
Commenters were in disbelief people will be so openly racist. One commenter pointed out, “If they’re so comfortable with their hate being recorded, imagine their hate in private…” Another person asked, “Is America Great yet?” Others actually sided with the racist Karens, saying they had a ‘no solicitation’ sign out front and the young salesman was getting what he asked for.
Nobody and I mean nobody deserves that barrage of hate and threat to their lives when they’re doing their job. This is racism in America and it doesn’t seem to be letting up in our current political climate.
