There is no reason for drivers to park their cars in bike lanes. After all, there are other places where they are allowed to park. So it is understandable that cyclists would be annoyed when this happens. A New York woman felt just like that when she was biking her way to work and found a truck parked in the bike lane. It was parked in front of an auto repair shop named G&S Truck and Auto Repair. The woman wanted to report the shop for allowing customers to always park in the bike lane. She wasn’t exactly a Karen as she pointed out that she was doing this because this isn’t the first time it happened. Well, a local man sitting in front of the store didn’t have the best reaction.
The New York woman stated that once the man saw her filming the parked truck, he seemed to give an order to someone to kill her. He spoke loudly on his phone so that she could hear him, and he was describing what she looked like to whomever was with him on the phone. The guy’s threat continued as he said through the phone, “She’s at the corner, as soon as that light turns green, hit her as hard as you can.” This can only he described as a terrifying situation. Imagine being getting a death threat for just for trying to file a report. Unfortunately, when the woman called 311, they dismissed her case claiming “lack of evidence.” She was forced to continue driving while being afraid that the threat would become a reality.
People Reacting to the New York Woman Being Threatened
Almost everyone sided with the New York woman and found it insane that she was threatened. A lot of people mentioned that they will also report the shop so that she won’t be alone. “Thanks for the heads up – sorry this happened to you. If I’m ever over there, I’ll report them in the bike lane too. I hate men like this,” one person wrote. Someone else said that they would try to drive by and film what is happening there. “I have a helmet cam, can take footage without even stopping. I’ll try to roll by there too and catch them in the act,” they wrote. Another person believed that the woman should have called 911. “Death threat is a 911 call, not a 311 call,” they said. This encouraged someone to reply and say, “911 wont do shit for that.”
There was also one Redditor who was surprised that the New York cyclist managed to drive away after hearing the threat. “I’m so sorry you experienced that. That’s really f**king scary. I’m glad your legs still worked well enough to ride away- mine would be jelly! I agree that calling 911 might have been better. Someone is threatening to follow and kill you?! Not shaming/blaming you at all for calling 311! Just saying if it happens again, god forbid. Sending you a hug,” they wrote. One person, however, believed that she should have minded her business. “Honestly just mind your business and bike around that stuff safely. People in this city are crazy and will hurt you,” they said. I think that since the police won’t do anything, she should have tried to ignore it just so that she would be safe.
