It’s not unheard of for teenagers, including 18 and 19-year-olds, to get into some trouble. Most of the time, it’s harmless. Other time, it’s outright monstrous. Case in point, a group of teenagers rolled up on an old man in Nebraska and started launching fireworks at him. He was doing nothing but walking along the side of the road at night. The sick part was that they recorded the assault and, unfortunately for them, they got what they deserve.
The video, which made rounds on r/PublicFreakout, shows a teenager driving his vehicle down a highway and yelling, “Shoot one again!” Suddenly, fireworks explode, illuminating an 80-year-old man. One of the teens approaches the elderly man with more fireworks and they shoot them continuously in his direction. There are so many, it fills the entire video with light. You can then hear the teens getting inside the vehicle so they can flee the scene. Since the video went viral, two of the teens were actually found by police and charged.
It turns out, the elderly man was actually struck several times by the fireworks before they fled the scene. He had minor injuries as a result. Police arrested 19-year-old Nathan Lee Gillespie in response to the incident. His charges include: using explosives with intent to do bodily harm, assault with a weapon, failure to comply with probation order, and several other related charges. It would seem this isn’t Nathan’s first rodeo with the police. As for the second teen, their name and charges haven’t been released.
Like me, commenters condemned the teens for their outright malicious act. How messed up do you have to be to target an elderly person minding their own business? One person commented on the video, “An 80 year old man is walking home at night (so you know he’s down bad) and instead of offering him a ride home you shoot fireworks at him? What types of parents raise pieces of s**t like that?”
Another person shared this type of thing happened close to them in Canada as well. They said some teens were “lighting off firecrackers under a RV trailer” and it “turns out it had a young family inside with an INFANT.” Some people truly never think of the consequences of their actions. Now they’ll have to face the music and charges that will stick with them for a long time.
