The appeal of the Tesla Cybertruck is still not lost on some people, just like one rapper named Big Huey from Detroit, Michigan. The aforementioned Detroit rapper notably drives a Tesla truck, though it appears he might not be content with it since he released a rap song highlighting the truck back on July 19. A few weeks after the rap song was released, Big Huey alleged that Tesla shut down or remotely deactivated his Cybertruck right in the middle of a busy freeway. Here’s the incident:
The incident took place on August 10, where, as you can see on Big Huey’s video, the dash-mounted tablet on the Cybertruck suddenly displayed a “Tesla Cybertruck De-Activated” message and the vehicle suddenly stopped, leaving the Detroit rapper stranded. Big Huey even alleged that he almost crashed because of the supposed sudden stoppage. As for what might have caused the issue, Big Huey followed up with an alleged cease-and-desist letter dated August 1 from Tesla.
According to the Tesla letter that Big Huey received, the rapper used the company’s intellectual property without authorization. Hence, Tesla deemed it necessary to remotely deactivate Big Huey’s Cybertruck. Apart from that, Tesla demanded that Big Huey take down his “Cybertruck” song and music video within seven days and refrain from making any media using Tesla’s intellectual property in the future. Big Huey was thus shocked and appalled at Tesla’s actions.
“Just checked the mail A Cease & Desist wtffffff this gotta be illegal @teslamotors dawg I almost crashed Yall Read this f*** s**t ๐ #Tesla,” complains the Detroit rapper
It’s not clear what Big Huey plans to do against Tesla’s demands, but it appears his “Cybertruck” rap song and music video are still up on YouTube and available for viewing at the time of writing. The Detroit rapper’s fans, however, have advised him to lawyer up and take the case to court, as it could be an interesting legal battle.
Anti-Tesla Sentiments Got Fueled
Some viewers were skeptical, of course, calling Big Huey’s story “fake” or perhaps just a spoof or a ploy by the rapper to make his new rap song even more viral. However, Big Huey is apparently damaging Tesla’s reputation by pulling such a stunt. Already, many didn’t care that it was a spoof, as what allegedly happened to Big Huey could potentially happen to any Tesla owner.
“Damn I hate it when my car has a failed OTA update and completely bricks in the middle of driving on the highway… Is what I would say if that ever happens to me… to any musk knob riders idgaf if it’s fake, lol ๐คฃ its still pretty feasible considering the autopilot and inability to open the door in case of emergency still seems to want to kill their users,” says kai333
“The fact that they have access to deactivate all the vehicles remotely is insane and dangerous,” claims bougierudy
“Ahhhhh, yes now that money well spent,” laughs Mountain_Product_159
In any case, Big Huey has stirred up a lot of attention, both to his Tesla Cybertruck and Tesla itself. Tesla’s software on the Cybertruck and cars is certainly capable of remotely deactivating the vehicle, though such actions are intended as protection against theft or payment defaults. So far, Big Huey hasn’t given an additional update, but either way, the Detroit rapper is courting trouble.
