Florida has been the site of numerous terrible mishaps as of late. Most recently, a new detention center for those who have been kidnapped by ICE has been built at a repurposed airstrip in the Everglades. The facility, dubbed Alligator Alcatraz, has been at the center of tons of new stories from detainees going on hunger strikes to kidnapped individuals being lost track of. Most recently, witnesses have noticed that detainees at the facility are being moved or disappearing altogether even more than usual.
A social worker on TikTok known as @socialworkerforthepeople posted a video detailing what detainees have been reporting. Cells are allegedly being emptied en masse and detainees are being moved to unknown locations, sparking even more distress within the facility’s walls. What’s worse is that some people are being told that the facility is closing altogether. If the latter is the case, no one seems to know if the closing is temporary or permanent.
She continues to detail the severity of the issue, alleging that more and more people are going missing and are unable to be located via a specialized ICE tracker. The replies quickly filled up with words of encouragement and sadness, with one person saying, “Florida government wonโt release how many have died on their watch. We have to help these people๐ฅ๐.“
As of late, just about all news concerning the detention center has revolved around the terrible things that could be happening behind closed doors. There have been fears of isolated COVID-19 infections and even reports of conditions so disastrous that no human should ever have to be a part of it. Hopefully, the current administration will highlight exactly what is happening sooner rather than later, giving the outside world a genuine look at what is expected to happen to those who are taken there.
Unfortunately, there are still people out in the world who want nothing more than for particular groups of people to leave the United States altogether. Earlier this month, a family visited the Alligator Alcatraz detention center and used the visitation as a family vacation trip. It’s unknown exactly how much of the facility can be seen, especially by those who genuinely agree with what is going on there, but the potential is terrifying.
