There have been tons of mentions on Roblox across various news streams as of late. The game platform is incredibly fun for players to experience various games without having to leave the application, but there are bad actors all across it. After many attempts at getting Roblox to strengthen its parental controls and do something about the growing number of bad situations taking place, a California congressman is doing what he can to fight for parents. Fortunately, he is being backed by a well-known Roblox YouTuber.
Ro Khanna is a U.S. representative for California’s 17th congressional district, having served in this role since 2017. He has held various high-ranking positions alongside other political leaders, which has given him insight into important information. This experience has enabled him to focus on issues that are more likely to resonate with left-leaning constituents. Now, he’s using that power to push for better safety parameters and additional transparency from Roblox, with help from YouTubers Schlep and KreekCraft.
Both content creators are well-known and well-respected within the Roblox community, each serving as protectors of the younger generation of players. KreekCraft spends a lot of his time exposing fake hackers and generally making the game a safer place. As for Schlep, he recently started a campaign aimed at finding and calling the authorities on child predators using Roblox. Various commenters went into Schlep’s replies discussing the partnership, agreeing and hoping for the best. In fact, Ro Khanna himself commented, saying, “Protect kids and support parents!“
As someone who personally knows children who play Roblox, I hope that more can be done to keep them safe. Unfortunately, given the company’s documented history of failing to protect its younger users, I anticipate that it will be a challenging struggle before any significant changes are implemented. Ideally, parents will be awarded with additional moderation by internal teams doing what Schlep himself is doing: weeding out predators.
