Amon’s Twisted Story Takes Center Stage in Latest Borderlands 4 Short

Skull-crushing not optional

The release date of Borderlands 4 is getting closer, and today wraps up the showcase of the third Vault Hunter, Amon. A few weeks ago, we got the fiery and icy gameplay showcase of this tank-like character. However, now we got a glimpse at his backstory, and I never expected some depressed Thor vibes mixed with skull-bashing antics and lighthearted humor. Still, that’s the staple of the Borderlands series, and I’m glad it is back at full swing for this latest entry.

Amon Steals the Vault Hunter Spotlight With His Cinematic Short

Borderlands 4 - Official Character Short - Amon (Demons)

With elemental axes and fiery whips, we already knew Amon would be one of the most destructible Vault Hunters in Borderlands 4. Yet, we finally see what might’ve led them down that chaotic path. In true Borderlands fashion, we see a cult of sorts trying to whip up a portal to a horrendous dimension, or at least one with a giant crab. However, Amon arrives, giving an inspiring and warning speech, despite him saying he was not there to talk, while also telling everyone he had seen some demons in the past and how everyone should stay away from them. Turns out, our hero with the glorious beard had his own cult experience as a kid, which is why he’s trying to keep people safe.

The cultists still manage to open up the portal, a giant grab starts killing some of the members, and Amon pulls off some gory yet satisfying skull-crushing antics. Then, we see how our hero lost his eyes and delivers one of the most badass lines of the whole cinematic short, “You’re stuck here, alone with the demons.” And we quickly swap to the Vault Hunting crew talking about their favorite ice cream. Yes, Amon either had some PTSD moment or ice cream tends to remind him of crushed skulls—I don’t judge.

In all seriousness, I’m glad to see how Borderlands 4 is aiming for a dark tone but with its iconic lighthearted humor. Even if the game is a few weeks away, we can already see that it has all the recipes for a banger of a dish, and what looks like the greatest entry in the franchise. For now, we can only wait for the last Vault Hunter to get their spotlight, which, judging by the track record of previous shorts and showcases, will be equally impressive.
