It’s no secret that the way parents behave in front of their kids has a significant impact on their personal development. After all, good role-modelling is an important part of parenting as it helps develop youngsters’ social skills, as children are highly observant and absorb everything around them. Recently, a Massachusetts mom was caught on camera nonchalantly using the n-word in front of her kids in a park. Not only was her language inappropriate, but the shocking interaction has sparked criticism online.
The brief 10-second clip takes place in a playground in Massachusetts, and before the camera has started rolling, the mom — sporting blue jorts, a black t-shirt, a yellow swaddling blanket draped over her shoulder, and pushing a baby in a pushchair — has allegedly used the n-word several times, prompting a Black man to confront her with his camera.
“She — she likes to say n*gger at the park,” exclaims the cameraman. While she pushes her pushchair, and with a couple of youngsters nearby, the mom retorts, “I said I have a brother who’s a n*gger.” with a nonchalant shrug and a smirk on her face. In the background, you can hear other people yell out in shock at her brazen attitude. “Oh, look. She keep saying it.” declares the man recording, before the footage comes to an end.
With the video snowballing online right now, social media users flooded the comment section to share their thoughts on the clip. The majority of reactions criticised the mom’s inappropriate behavior, with one person on Tiktok writing, “Omg I absolutely hate that word and to see people just use it so loosely is crazy to me” while another more furious commenter penned, “Report her to cps. Sheโs purposefully putting her children in harms way by inciting violence & hate speech“. A third commenter added, “This is actually insane and just so jarring to hear! Horrible example for the children“
It’s fair to say that the Massachusetts mom’s casual delivery clashed sharply with the weight of the word she was uttering, leaving nearby parents and passersby frozen in an awkward mix of disbelief and discomfort. Not a good look at all, and not exactly a great role model for her children, right?
