In less than a month after moving into a new neighborhood in Nebraska, a couple is already at odds with neighbors who aren’t happy about their arrival. One of the two goes by Deep-Goal8404 on Reddit and shared photos on r/whatdoIdo showing how their neighbors have allegedly been mistreating them. From cardboard signs with vulgar language to a threatening handwritten note, tens of thousands of Redditors agreed that this couple wasn’t off to a good start in their new home.
Whoever wrote the notes seemed to have an issue with how the couple was parking and with the placement of their trash bin outside. Deep-Goal8404 claims they don’t know who the aggressive culprit is, but are disturbed that they refused to communicate face-to-face instead. “It’s so discomforting to know we are being watched by someone we’ve never met,” they wrote.
For added context, Deep-Goal8404 believes that there is no racial component involved in their neighborhood drama. “We are a white, heterosexual couple in a red state, but we are young in a town full of older folks,” they explained. They also mentioned that their sister has lived in the same town for six years without issue, so this harassment is very much new to them.
“Start getting it documented. Someone has nothing better to do than be miserable,” suggested a commenter, recommending that the couple get security cameras for their home. “There are some really unkind folks in your neighborhood,” remarked a second. Another person called the author of the notes “childish,” saying, “Vulgarity implies hostility, threatening peace.”
Deep-Goal8404 has actively responded to many comments and claims they will be working towards getting cameras, but need time to settle first. They also wrote that they’re not looking to start a war but would prefer to reduce any hostility as best they can. “If they came to our door and mentioned it, we could’ve worked something out!” they exclaimed.
Several commenters believed that these notes, despite the ‘all the other neighbors’ signature, were probably written by a single person. As one Redditor explained, “The only reason they do it to you is because they’ve already done it to everyone else, and you’re the only person they can still get away with harassing without getting in trouble.”
