Ideally, police officers should make us feel safe, especially when exercising our constitutional rights. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case anymore, at least in some specific situations. Recently, a citizen was recording a traffic stop in Washington, DC, when a cop suddenly pulled out his baton, threatening the person to stay away. While things didn’t escalate further, it is shocking that some police elements are forbidding people from doing actions that the constitution allows. Then again, this is a trend many police officers have been following, and it is heartbreaking.
In the video, shared by Redditor RoachedCoach, you can see a citizen recording what seems to be a routine traffic stop. As you may or may not know, it is your constitutional right to film public officials when they are carrying out their duties. However, one DC cop was not okay with that, as he pulled out his baton as soon as he spotted the man with the camera. Yet, a bit of context is required here.
According to the OP, the ones conducting the traffic stop were Parks officers. However, the one who arrived to pull out his baton was not part of that agency. The cameraman also mentioned how the aggressive police officer arrived in a separate unmarked vehicle, making many believe that he might have been ICE.
In any case, many agree that this was an overreaction, but what is truly shocking is that no one else, including the Parks police officers, did anything to confront the suspicious cop. Then again, if the cop was an undercover ICE agent, there’s little they could do, as this organization is running rampant across the country. But it is only speculation, as the officer’s agency remains a mystery.
As you can imagine, many people were shocked and angered regarding this situation.

“Fascists. The lot of them…” Said another one.
While some of these situations happened in the past, they seem to be more common lately, at least since Trump became president. Many police officers and ICE agents have become more aggressive and have started to scare citizens almost daily. It is something that’s making the country look like a dystopia, and unfortunately, there are no signs of it improving anytime soon.
