Far too many people indeed think they need to be the character in another person’s story. Nobody can mind their business, and that’s why we sometimes end up with group fights and events of disorderly conduct. One woman was at a Florida airport, casually recording her trip, when she was confronted by a Russian Karen. So, what was the Karen’s problem? Well, apparently, she didn’t want to appear in the woman’s recording. Clearly, she wanted to make this all about her.
Casey (@casey_baby2.0) shared her video on TikTok captioned, “Me casually minding my business and get harassed by a Russian at the airport.” Casey was recording herself telling her followers that she didn’t get to eat because she had a delayed flight and her children were with her. As she’s recording, you catch a glimpse of a white lady in the background but you barely even see her for more than a second. However, she takes this as her opportunity to confront Casey. The Karen says, “Excuse me, we’re in the background and you haven’t got our permission to film us.” She tells Casey to delete the video and Casey states, “You’re okay. I’m not deleting anything off my phone.”
Casey continues to tell the Karen that she’ll be okay and doesn’t have to worry about what she’s recording on her own personal time. The lady keeps telling Casey, “Excuse me, but that’s our personal information” in the hopes that she’ll cave and delete the video. As the Karen tries to interrupt her video several times, Casey talks over her and continues to record herself talking about their flight experience. She even turns to the Karen and says that she’s in a “public space” and has permission to record there.
The Russian Karen clearly won’t let it go, saying, “You filmed us! You filmed us!” as if someone broke a law against her. Casey tells her, “I didn’t film you. I filmed me; you were just in the background.” I can promise you nobody even noticed the Karen until she came up and started something over it. In the background, you can hear the Karen telling somebody about the experience. She says she’s “absolutely disgusted.” Casey tells them that, if they don’t like it, they can “stand somewhere else” instead of directly behind her.
Casey tells her audience, “As long as you’re black, you’re always going to have somebody in your business.” The Karen continues to harass her and, at this point, Casey turns the video onto Karen and her friends. They don’t have too much to say to her after that. Casey says this is reminiscent of why the ‘Cincinnati brawl’ recently happened. The brawl, which has been relevant in recent news, took place when a white man started to hit a black man in the face. As a result, a large group of people became involved and fought with one another. Several people received charges for their role in the incident.
Commenters were in agreement that Casey handled the situation well. One shared, “I would have turned the camera on to them and been like, ‘Now I am recording you!’” Another person stated, “IT’S THE ENTITLEMENT FOR ME.” They could have quickly avoided this by staying out of her recording and leaving her alone. But, again, a Karen will always have to make everything about themselves.
