Generally, when you go to a supermarket, you expect nothing more than to grab what you need, maybe wait in line, and then head home. Most people just mind their own business. But sometimes, even in the middle of an ordinary shopping trip, drama finds its way into the aisles. That is exactly what happened to TikToker @julia_christine84, who recently had an unpleasant encounter with a so-called “Karen” inside a supermarket in New Jersey.
The video she posted begins mid-argument, with Julia already exchanging words with the woman. According to her, the confrontation started when the woman deliberately stepped into her path and then demanded that she move out of the way. The TikToker refused, calmly pointing out that the usual supermarket courtesy is for people to keep to the right side of the aisle when moving with carts. That explanation, however, didn’t sit well with the New Jersey woman. Instead of simply moving along, she rammed her shopping cart directly into Julia’s cart.
Unwilling to be treated like a doormat, Julia stood her ground. She pushed back with her own cart, forcing the woman several steps backward. At this point, the woman erupted into screams, flailing in panic and shouting for help as if she were the victim. Julia, unfazed, warned her that she didn’t want to keep pushing the situation further. But instead of de-escalating, the woman doubled down. She whipped out her phone, gave Julia the middle finger, and continued screaming for help.
The standoff escalated further when the New Jersey woman demanded once again that Julia move. Julia, standing firm, refused to comply. At one point, Julia even told her to just call 911 and “see how things would end.”
Sure enough, in the second part of the video, the woman did exactly that. She called the police, claiming she had no idea why Julia was upset and portraying herself as the innocent party. That statement only enraged the TikToker further. She shouted back, making it clear that her anger stemmed directly from the woman’s entitlement, standing in her way, ordering her to move, and then ramming her cart when she refused.
The tense supermarket standoff continued until store staff finally appeared in the aisle. Only then did the woman back down, retreating while Julia explained the situation to employees.
When Julia uploaded the videos to social media, they quickly went viral, sparking heated discussions. Many viewers blasted the woman’s behavior, calling her entitled and manipulative. “Hits your cart then screams for help?” one commenter wrote in disbelief.
Others went further, suggesting the incident may have been racially motivated. “This is blatant racism. I can only imagine how gut-wrenching it must feel as a Black woman to be told to step aside by a white woman. It reeks of Jim Crow era behavior. Seeing hate show its ugly face like this is heartbreaking. Proud of you for standing your ground ❤️,” one user said.
