Paying customers, beware. Three days ago, a Walmart shopper was stopped by police in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and ordered back inside. Adam Brown, whose TikTok channel is @adam.brown8074, had just finished buying a microwave. Unbeknownst to him, a female employee had called law enforcement, stating he had stolen it. What happened next is wild.
When Adam initially entered Walmart, he wanted to make a return. The store would not take back his microwave, stating that it wasn’t packaged inside its original box. He chose to buy a new one and left with both microwave units in his shopping cart. He didn’t make it far before he was told he was being detained and ordered back inside.
Once there, a female employee insisted that Adam was only entitled to the broken microwave. Despite his assurance that he paid for the new one, she misunderstood him repeatedly, accusing him of theft:
I know you purchased it, but they denied your return, so you went and got a whole other one off the shelf… You didn’t have the original box… That one is yours. This one is not.
Eventually, Adam produced his receipt, which prompted her to call for backup.
Jake, another employee at the Las Cruces, New Mexico store, came over to confirm that Adam had in fact purchased the microwave.
Adam requested the name of the female falsely who accused him of theft, but she told him she wasn’t required to give it. Before he stopped recording, Adam informed her the video would be put online.
New Mexico Walmart Mistake or Darker Motivation?
When Adam first posted the video, he captioned it with the opinion that he had been racially profiled. Some are denying those claims.
On a repost of the footage, a woman who says she’s related to the female Walmart worker had this to say in defense:
The fact this went viral is nuts. [M]y niece is far from [racist.] She’s half white and half Hispanic. [She] has family of many cultures. [T]his person won’t show his face. [J]ust felt like making a video to be an ass.
Many others feel that Adam made things worse by pulling the new microwave out of the box before leaving the store. Yet most of the comments were still in agreement that Adam was owed an apology.
Between the original video and all of the reposts that followed, the incident has now been viewed by over 2 million online.
