Before the launch of The Edge of Fate, we already knew Bungie was cooking a Star Wars-themed expansion, and while we only got a tiny glimpse at it, we finally have a bigger picture. Today, the developers hosted a livestream talking about some QoL changes, the new Ash & Iron event, but most importantly, gave us a breakdown of some of the biggest additions coming to Destiny 2: Renegades. Furthermore, Bungie showed how big this Star Wars-inspired adventure will be, as it is paying homage to one of the best sci-fi franchises out there, but also threw some gameplay aspects that might be some people’s cup of Liber-Tea.
In A Galaxy Not So Far Away
If you didn’t know, Destiny 2: Renegades will hit the digital shelves on December 2, 2025, which, fortunately, isn’t that far away. To continue with the story of The Edge of Fate, our Guardians will travel to the Lawless Frontier, ruled by outlaws and criminal organizations, as we pursue good old Drifter.
This new area is heavily inspired by Star Wars, with many locations reminding us of Dagobah, Tatooine with its Sarlacc Pits, and even a few Hoth references here and there. However, there’s more to it, as Guardians will be able to wield weapons of a more civilized age, Praxic Blades, which, yes, are like Lightsabers, but in the Destiny 2 universe. According to the developers, these weapons will be highly customizable, both in terms of cosmetics and gameplay.
While there are still many things under wraps, it is clear that Renegades will be a massive homage to Star Wars, but also with many Destiny things in it, to make it feel original, yet familiar to many fans of both worlds out there. For instance, the underworld, ruled by any of the three factions, players will be able to interact with, might remind many of the Cartels in Star Wars, but they all feel more Destiny-like thanks to the denizens in each of the factions. This is a great approach, especially for Guardians who, for whatever reason, aren’t fans of Star Wars.
On the other hand, and speaking as a diehard Star Wars fan, I’m glad to see so many iconic things in the expansion, such as the blaster and Praxic Blade sounds, the X-Wing-like ship coming to the game, and many other things. Hopefully, the expansion will strike a balance that pays tribute to the iconic saga while maintaining theย Destiny 2ย feel, which is what we’re all here for.
A New Chaotic Co-Op Mode

In terms of gameplay, Destiny 2: Renegades is bringing a lot of things to the table, mainly a new co-op mode that might remind some players of Helldivers 2. Don’t worry, there aren’t underground tunnels or Hive Lords. You can leave that trauma for the most recent Major Order that we all lost.
As shown in the ViDoc, the Lawless Frontier will be full of co-op activities. You’ll be able to decide which job to take and bring some Renegades abilities. However, here is where it reminds us of Helldivers 2, which is terrific. Some of these co-op missions will task players with jumping into the action, completing objectives, grabbing loot or other rewards, and then extracting safely as enemies try to stop your escape. So far, we’ve only seen a glimpse of it, but this looks like a refreshing take on the co-op PvE content we’ve grown accustomed to.
On top of that, there will be different Renegade abilities that also look a bit like Stratagems. You’ll be able to call in an orbital strike, an AT-ST-like vehicle, and more. Naturally, this will help you and your teammates finish the objective or make everything more chaotic.
While we’d love to see more about Destiny 2: Renegades, we’ll have to wait a bit more to discover what Bungie has in store for us. However, with the latest livestream, we’re convinced this will be a fantastic expansion and one that will bridge two iconic sci-fi universes into a memorable adventure in a galaxy far, far away.
