It often feels like women can’t be safe no matter where they go. In Michigan, one woman was left shaken and traumatized after what should have been a routine trip to her local Kroger. While shopping, she began to notice a young man who seemed to be following her through the aisles. Her unease turned into horror when she suddenly felt something wet on her pants. Fearing the worst, she suspected the man trailing her was responsible.
Although the substance was never identified, the woman and many others online believed it may have been semen. The disturbing possibility left her feeling deeply violated.
Thankfully, the Kroger staff responded quickly. They immediately checked security footage, and the manager confirmed her suspicions: the man had indeed been following her throughout the store. By then, the woman’s sense of safety had been shattered, as it became clear he had deliberately put something on her.
The Michigan woman made sure to file a police report, and the police took the matter seriously. She also gave them her pants with the unknown liquid still on them so they could send them to forensics. Unfortunately, it was a few days later that the woman’s gut feeling turned out to be true. She shared an update that the man was arrested after he was recognized by a Kroger employee doing the same thing to another woman. He is definitely guilty since he tried to run away once the police arrived, but they were able to catch him. According to CBS News, the suspect is 20-year-old Deon Otis Grant, who was arraigned on counts of “fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.”
CBS News also shared that a “not guilty plea was entered on Grant’s behalf.” Currently, Grant was released on a $10,000 bond, which is honestly frustrating. Someone like this shouldn’t be out there where he could easily do the same thing to other women. The only good thing here is that he can’t return to the same Kroger store, and also can’t have any contact with either victim. Hopefully, he will face consequences once he is back in court on September 19. Let’s also hope that the Michigan woman and the other victim will be able to heal from this traumatizing event.

Almost everyone agreed that what happened to the Michigan woman and the other victim was traumatizing. This is something no woman would want to go through. The fact that the pervert was bold enough to do this made one person write, “This is crazy‼” Since the first victim was sharing several updates, one woman who was following the story was glad that the man was arrested. “Wait I remember her posting about this. I’m glad they actually did something about it ‼‼!” she wrote. Another person was upset that the guy was released, which made them say, “Sucks he was released!” They have got a point. Someone else agreed that he should have remained in jail as they wrote, “well, he’s on bond. So he’ll have to go back for trial or whatever happens next. But yeah, he shouldn’t be out of jail.”
More people were disturbed by the fact that Grant was released on bond. A lot of them shared the same concern that the Michigan woman had, and that is the fact that there is a school near that Korger store. “Mercy being right across the street is weird thank god he’s in custody now,” one woman wrote. The fact that he did this near a school should have kept him in jail. Others focused more on how the first victim was brave for speaking up. “Omg it’s true so brave of her ! I been watching her updates. Why dude just why? Imagine how many more other women would go through this if she didn’t speak up so proud of her,” another woman wrote. It’s definitely not an easy thing to go through.
