Your first Vault…maybe

Vaults are some of the most challenging yet rewarding places in Borderlands 4, and the Vault of Inceptus might be one of the first that you will encounter in the game. Since it is the first that will pop up during the starting areas, chances are that you’ll locate it and want to enter it to farm it in the future. However, it is easier said than done, as you’ll need Vault Keys first and then face a challenging fight at the end. Below is a guide on how to unlock and complete the Vault of Inceptus in Borderlands 4.

Vault of Inceptus Guide

First things first: the Vault’s location. When roaming Kairos, your UI might pick up some Vault signals, and you’ll have to do a scavenger hunt of sorts to locate them. We’ll make that process much shorter and show the location above.

If you’re unsure where that is, you can find it north of Wyclef’s Reprieve Safehouse, which is close to the facility you visit during the “A Lot To Process” main quest. After that, head to the location marked on the map, which you can find by following the golden path in the above image.

It is important to note that even if you find it, you’ll need three Vault Key Fragments first. You can find them easily by clearing Silos around the map. After clearing one Silo, you’ll get a yellow circle on the map, showing where a Vault Key Fragment is. Once you get all three, return to the above location to open the vault.

Once inside the Vault, you’ll notice it is a Gauntlet of sorts, and most enemies will be familiar to you already. The first two areas are easy to clear, while the third one might have a mini-boss. In our case, we had a floating enemy that had crystals in its body, and we had to break them before damaging it. In truth, these are all pretty easy to beat, but the most challenging one is Inceptus, the Vault’s guardian.

When the fight begins, focus on pulling apart the plates from Inceptus’ body. They will reveal a weak point that you can target, allowing you to bring down its shield and health quickly. In our experience, we noticed fire worked better against Inceptus, in case you have some Incendiary guns in your inventory.

The most challenging part comes at specific points of the encounter, where Inceptus will fill the area with poison, and you’ll need to jump to certain points above the arena to avoid it and bring Inceptus out of its protective cocoon.

These are the two biggest things you must keep in mind when fighting Inceptus. In terms of moves, Inceptus has mainly ranged and tail attacks, both of which can one-shot you if you don’t evade them. However, there are many smaller enemies in the arena that you can kill for a Second Wind, in case you get hurt. Other than that, just keep blasting Inceptus until you beat it and it bursts like a loot piƱata.
