If there’s one celebrity fans can count on to consistently speak out against irrationality and injustice, it’s Pedro Pascal. And with Jimmy Kimmel now being indefinitely given the boot by Disney’s ABC, The Mandalorian star is publicly showing his support on Instagram by posting a photo of him posing with Jimmy. The post’s subtitle reads, “Standing with you @jimmykimmellive Defend #FreeSpeach Defend #DEMOCRACY.” While Trump supporters and the President himself are shouting praises from the rooftops for the late-night show host’s cancellation, many are raising their voices in support of Kimmel.
Pedro Pascal is a well-loved celebrity, so it’s not too hard to get behind him whenever he speaks out against some form of mistreatment. However, online commenters also point out how the live-action The Last of Us actor is no stranger to the tyranny of government control, as his own family was reportedly refugees from Chile. On top of being an immigrant, a despised term among MAGA circles, Pascal’s family had to escape after deciding to help a gunshot victim during dictator Augusto Pinochet’s reign, per HuffPost. In other words, it runs in his blood to support those oppressed by a tyrannical regime.
Many label the Prospect actor as a celebrity who isn’t just a brand that plays themselves for the sake of PR. Instead, he has unfailingly used his popularity and platform to speak out against unreasonable people, including J.K. Rowling and Donald Trump. “Thank you for consistently using your voice and platform to support the right side of history,” remarks an Instagram commenter. “Pedro will never disappoint me,” expresses another. One person pointed out that, with his strong connections to Disney, his protest against the injustice faced by Jimmy Kimmel gives him the power to make a difference.
“Pedro you can go further and hit Disney where it really hurts them,” says a Redditor. Since he’s so involved with Disney’s franchises and plays two major roles in upcoming films next year, people have shown admiration for his bravery in firmly displaying his stance. This is quite different than how many feel about Obama’s recent statement on X, as his words hold less significance, seeing how he’s a former President and politician who has little stake in the matter. Still, any voice does make a difference. And just as many people are now boycotting Disney and cancelling their subscriptions, hopefully the media conglomerate will realize that caving to the government isn’t always the best move.
