Donald Trump ‘Belongs In A Rubber Room’ For What He Said About ‘Loser’ David Letterman

Donald Trump’s latest jab has set off another firestorm

Donald Trump is no stranger to picking fights on social media, but his latest jab has set off another firestorm. On Friday night, the president took aim at legendary late-night host David Letterman, mocking his career and appearance in a post that quickly racked up over half a million views. “Whatever happened to the very highly overrated David Letterman, whose ratings were never very good, either. He looks like hell, but at least he knew when to quit. LOSER!!!” Trump wrote. The blunt insult, reminiscent of Trump’s trademark campaign rally riffs, instantly went viral, with critics and supporters alike piling on.

The backlash was swift and cutting. One user wrote, “This man belongs in a rubber room in a mental hospital. Really.” Another sarcastically quipped, “So glad he’s so focused on issues of state, like the wars in Russia. He’s so fond of ‘solving’ like Sudoku puzzles. Or in his case, ‘Hidden Pictures’ from his recent copy of Highlights Magazine.”

Others zoomed in on Trump’s obsession with TV ratings. “Whenever he speaks about ratings it reveals why his name is Trump and not Nielsen,” one commenter joked, while another jabbed, “Imagine being the president of the US and feeling the need to dunk on people on social media. Insecure much?”

Some even warned that the post revealed a deeper pattern. “Be concerned. Sounds like the ramblings of a paranoid autocrat going down his list of perceived enemies and their current status,” one tweet cautioned, adding Colbert, Kimmel, Fallon, and others as Trump’s possible next targets.

Donald Trump, David Letterman, And Late-Night Feuds

This isn’t the first time Trump has clashed with a late-night host. Letterman, who retired from The Late Show in 2015, was often critical of Trump throughout his career and in interviews after leaving TV. The feud echoes Trump’s recent fights with Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, both of whom have faced political pressure after lampooning him on-air.

As Nerd Stash has reported, Kimmel was suspended indefinitely by ABC over comments he made about Charlie Kirk. “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” he said during his monologue earlier this week. “In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

Kimmel then aired footage of President Donald Trump being questioned about Kirk’s death, where a reporter extended condolences and asked how he was coping. “I think very good, and by the way, right there where you see all the trucks, they just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House,” Trump replied to the reporter, immediately adding the new ballroom at the White House will “be a beauty.”

“Yes,” Kimmel said as the camera cut back to him, “he’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction.” The suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! by ABC lined up with Nexstar Media’s choice to pull the program from its airwaves.

As for Stephen Colbert, it was previously reported that his show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, was canceled by CBS in July 2025, with his final episode scheduled for May 2026.
