If you have in-laws, it can go one of two ways. For many people, your in-laws may be great: attentive when you need it, good to your children. For others, in-laws could be the worst. An Iowa mom who just had a baby with her husband, she’s obviously looking for support. But when her in-laws started to overstep boundaries before the baby was even born, it looked like trouble to her. Now, she explains the signs she picked up on regarding her toxic in-laws.

@keanabrown13

Can we say… overstepping? I had to raise your 23 year old son, and you expect me to let you watch mine? Absolutely not! ✨I worked for my husbands father so we started off with relationship. He would constantly tell me that I only have the job because of him and he was super manipulative. All the comment keep saying “it’s the MIL”, for me it was the FIL. He bullied my husband constantly in front of friends and family. Everyone that it was funny including my husband and I told him that it was not normal. At our baby shower we were opening gifts and we got a book called “the fat cow” once we opened it and everyone seen it his mother said “Hey Trevor it’s you” infront of everyone. They stole money from us, his dad tried to fight him on crutches 3 days after knee surgery, and would constantly put him down about his weight or job or anything he could. There is way more to this than this little video. I didn’t say all in-laws are bad and I don’t think if you bought your grandkids something that is bad but I’m our situation it was! I’m sure your boys will be fine ✨ we stopped talking to his parents 3 years ago. We still get nasty text every couple of months, we still hangout and talk to the rest of his family, and my husband chose this as much as I did. We are happy with our life and our family and I wouldn’t expect all of you to understand ✨ #toxic #inlaws #raisingkids #brokenfamily #momlife

Keana (@keanabrown13) shared a TikTok video outlining some of the ways her in-laws overstepped boundaries since she became pregnant. One of the first things that happened was they bought a base for the baby’s car seat to sit in their vehicle. They thought they would be taking her daughter for visits and assumed they’d be allowed to. She said they also bought a fancy bassinet for at their house, assuming the baby would be able to stay overnight. Keep in mind, Keana never discussed any of this with them.

Keana said the in-laws should’ve never assumed that her child would stay the night because the dynamic of their relationship was not the best. She went on to say, “They’re never gonna watch my kids. You can’t even raise your kids.” Keana said that her husband’s parents were always “super manipulative” toward them. Apparently, they’ve stopped talking to his parents as of three years ago. She said they continue to get nasty texts from them every so often, which speaks wonders about them. It sounds to me like she dodged a bullet by not allowing them to control her children, too.

Keana isn’t the only woman in this situation, as seen in the comments to her video. One person shared, “Mine was gonna make a whole nursery for my baby… we’re no contact now.” Another shared that she dealt with overstepping boundaries with her own mother. She said, “My mom did this and she had caused me so much trauma when I was little. I was so convinced she was gonna try and take my baby so I cut contact with her.” In some situations, this is the best decision. You need to be able to keep your sanity when you’re out there raising little humans. If somebody isn’t good for you or your children, it may be time to kick them to the curb.
