On the day of getting a hole-in-one during his golfing trip in Wisconsin, a Canadian tourist’s luck tragically ran out, as he became the victim of a drive-by shooting. 32-year-old Giovanni Michael Robinson from Ontario was reportedly walking back to his hotel during a golf trip when an SUV drove by and whoever was inside shot Robinson.
According to police reports, the suspect has yet to be identified or apprehended as of the time of writing, with the investigation still ongoing. Needless to say, online users are both in shock and appalled that this would happen to an innocent tourist on vacation in the US. That said, gun violence or hate crimes aren’t exactly new in the States. But there’s no question that the current political climate hasn’t really helped much either, if not made already-racist people more intensely radical in their views.
In a local Wisconsin police update, the Robinson’s brother-in-law left a comment, saying that he had just had his first child this August. Of course, the loss of any innocent life is horrible enough, but now with news that a baby is left fatherless because of a cruel murderer, the situation is even worse. “This is a nightmare,” the family member remarked. Online users state how it’s hard to imagine why anyone would target a Canadian tourist on vacation, considering the very low likelihood he was involved in anything shady. Many think it’s just a random drive-by shooting without any explanation.
One commenter remarked how, if that’s the case, it would be tragically similar to the murder of an innocent Australian killed by Oklahoma teenagers who were reportedly just killed for “the fun of it.” Reasons for murdering aside, everyone is very saddened that, with news like this, America has very much become a country that is no longer safe for foreigners to visit. “The US is not a safe place,” comments one user. “I just hope Canadians take US travel advisories more seriously. The country isnโt safe right, regardless what their State Media tells you,” adds another.
Redditors are saying that, in an ironic twist of fate, America has become “one of the dangerous countries” that people used to warn each other from visiting. A person claiming to be from the place in Wisconsin says that “It’s a quiet town with nothing going on.” But with Robinson’s undeserved death, “We failed a guest in our country,” they remark. Hopefully, the authorities will soon catch the shooter responsible for the murder.
