A New York–based content creator shared a chilling story about an Uber ride she took while visiting Chicago, saying she nearly jumped out of the moving car because she felt unsafe. In her TikTok video, she explained that she got into the Uber around 7 p.m. to meet a friend for dinner. She said she expected the drive to last a short six minutes since all she had to do was cross over a bridge to get to the restaurant. However, when the driver missed a turn toward the bridge and began driving in the opposite direction without explanation, she sensed something was off. “Immediately I’m already like, ooh, why did you not make that turn? Why are we going in the opposite direction?” she recalled thinking at the time.
More on Her Story
What unsettled the woman even more was the music on his playlist. She said she could see the titles of songs on his dashboard, including tracks like “Make Her Cry” and another about “breaking someone down.” “They were all very violent-sounding and specifically targeted to women,” she said, adding that he was also nervously biting his nails and acting strangely calm. When the woman finally mustered the courage to ask him to pull over, the driver refused, claiming there was construction even though it was on the opposite side of the road. Fearing for her safety, she cracked the car door open and insisted again that he stop. “Something came over me,” she said in the video. “I looked at him and said, ‘You are going to stop the car and I am going to get out.’” When a red light forced him to stop, she quickly exited the car and ran to safety.
Afterward, she called Uber to report what happened but was told that the driver had canceled her trip while she was still in the car, leaving no record of the ride. The realization made her even more uneasy. “It means he canceled it once I got in,” she said, warning others to always trust their intuition and check that their trips remain active during rides.
