We usually hear about customers filing complaints to Uber about a delivery driver’s misconduct and vice versa, but it is very rare for either party to involve the police in a simple matter. That was the case of a Detroit woman who had the cops called on her by an Uber Eats driver, allegedly based on a lie.
In a TikTok video, the customer said she had ordered Taco Bell around 2 a.m. and selected the delivery PIN option to make sure her order was securely handed to her. When the driver arrived, they refused to leave the food at the door and insisted the customer come outside to their car, something the woman said she was unwilling to do at that hour. The customer told them they could leave the order at the door and that she would send the PIN afterward, but the driver declined.
After some hesitation, the driver eventually walked halfway up the driveway, still holding the food. When the woman came to the door, the two went back and forth about who should act first, with the driver demanding the PIN and the customer insisting she would only provide it once she had her food in hand.
According to the woman, Uber Eats’ instructions clearly state that the PIN is entered after the customer receives the food. She said the exchange lasted nearly four minutes, with the driver refusing to hand it over. “She was holding my food hostage for what?” the woman recalled, adding that she had already tipped before delivery and found the confrontation unnecessary.
When the driver finally passed her the order, the woman gave the PIN as promised. Yet, she claimed that the driver continued arguing outside even after marking the delivery as complete. The situation escalated further when the driver allegedly called the police on her, claiming someone in the house had pointed a weapon at them. The woman called the accusation “a complete lie” and said she did not answer the door when officers arrived. However, she later did confirm with Uber that the claim was false.
What People Are Saying About the Detroit Delivery Dispute
Netizens on TikTok largely sided with the customer, with one comment agreeing that the driver’s attitude seemed suspicious. “She probably had weird energy because she wanted to say it was delivered and take your food. Uber Eats has done that at least three times to me,” they wrote. Another person said, “That’s crazy!! I deliver for Uber Eats and you’re correct I hand the food to the customer and then get the pin.” A third viewer added, “This is why I’m so glad I have a ring camera. I had a doordasher try to lie like this once and I just submitted the ring camera video to get it disputed lol.”
A few also joked about the timing and the situation’s absurdity. “Mind you the food is so cold now 😭,” one commented. Someone else remarked, “She wanted to keep the food.” Another said, “I give my pin only after the food is in my hands. Don’t give my food, I’ll just get my money back 😂 especially at night I’m not about to play with none of that.”
