When people go to hotels, they expect they have a nice time and find excellent service. They, however, don’t expect to be scammed. This happened to a woman who was left furious after she discovered that a 4-star New York hotel was running a scam. The hotel, called M Social Hotel New York Times Square, was lying about guests smoking so that they would charge them a $500 smoking fee. The woman shared on TikTok her experience with the hotel, and it was clear that they tried to scam her. According to her, she and her group were out all day and returned at 5pm to find a note on their door stating that the hotel was charging them a $500 smoking fee.
Immediately, the woman went to talk to the manager of the New York hotel because none of them is a smoker. He proceeded to give her the room’s smoke report. The report stated that it picked up smoke from the room between 4 pm and 4:30 pm. How is that even possible when they weren’t inside their room at that time? It didn’t make sense. She told the manager to check the cameras and their key cards to prove that they were outside, and he refused to check anything. How is the manager of a 4-star New York hotel refusing to help his guests? Aren’t hotels supposed to offer good service? So they were basically trying to steal $500 from her despite her having proof that she wasn’t even in the room.
Instead of the New York hotel apologizing, the hotel staff proved to the woman that they were running a scam. They contacted her only to tell her that they had given her the wrong time on the smoke report. The new report said that they were smoking from 10 to 11 am. Oh, so it is a coincidence that the hotel changed the time to a time when the woman was in her room? This screams guilty. In another video, the victim revealed that she wasn’t the only one. More people came forward saying that the same scam happened to them at the hotel. The hotel even had old reviews that said the same thing. Did they expect that no one would notice?
Since a lot of people saw the woman’s video, the hotel faced outrage. People started leaving negative reviews, but the hotel kept deleting them. The woman later shared that the hotel sent her a bill via email. In the bill, they removed the $500 smoking charge. So they just proved that they were accusing her of something she didn’t do. This only made it clear to everyone that they are running a scam. They probably were just afraid of the reaction so they gave the woman her money back. She also stated that this wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for her video gaining people’s attention. Now, a lot of people are familiar with this scam. If the hotel wanted to save its image, it’s probably too late since they didn’t even apologize to anyone. It’s insane that a 4-star hotel is doing this.
People Reacting to the New York Hotel’s Scam
It wasn’t just the poor woman who was furious toward the New York hotel. Everyone who heard her story felt the same. Since the hotel changed the time stamp on the smoke report, one person pointed out that this could help her legally. “Oh you have a lawsuit if you kept the original report,” they wrote. Others agreed with this as another person said, “u have the original report they printed out that says 4-430 so now it shows inconsistent information on their parts. U have sometype of case for yourself.” Someone else also wrote, “They definitely checked the card swipes and realized you weren’t in the room so they changed their timeline. I’d hire a lawyer out of spite.” They might have canceled the smoking charge, but she still should hold them accountable.
Once people began sharing their experiences with the M Social Hotel New York Times Square, others started to investigate the hotel. “I JUST FOUND SOMETHING ELSE!! There is a news story from earlier in 2024 from another hotel running the same scam – and it’s a hotel ran by the same parent company Millenium Hotels!!!” one person discovered. It would be hard for anyone to believe that all of this is just a coincidence. A woman even shared that this scam happened to her at the same hotel too. “I used to stay there on every trip unril this happened to me as well. They’re running a scam,” she wrote. Hopefully, the viral video would help people avoid booking at that hotel, especially since they are still carrying out the same scam.
