With Florida, the absurd never takes a day off. Today, a local woman took an intentional nose-dive straight onto the concrete floor, leaving internet users completely baffled. The weird scene was captured in a video posted on Reddit with a fittingly confused caption, “What was she trying to do?” The twelve-second clip shot from across the street came with a text overlay indicating the exact location it was recorded, “Hallandale Beach,” along with a statement implying that the person who captured the scene was not surprised it was happening in Florida. “POV: Florida is not a real place.”
The Florida local woman, who appeared focused and determined to achieve her goal, climbed onto a white Nissan Altima parked in front of the Third Federal Savings and Loan building. After adjusting her stance, she took the jump right onto a set of hedges at the side of the car and landed squarely on the ground. After a brief moment, the woman then stumbled to her feet, only to fall back down due to the impact of the fall.
Another bizarre thing, however, was that a young man who entered the building just after she had jumped appeared unfazed by her actions, as though it were an everyday occurrence. Just as the netizen who posted the video was puzzled, every other social media user had a theory. One postulated, “Ever since Florida banned abortion, this is the new medical technique for that unwanted pregnancy.” Echoing their thoughts, another added, “When your state bans abortions.”
A Reddit user quipped, “Florida is one helluva drug,” while another mocked, “Bro, it’s called Bush Diving. You have not lived until you have impacted your ribs with a bush branch from a 3 apartment height jump.” Many others leaned into the same abortion theory. One user stated, “I know it’s sad… But I’m just going to guess self-induced abortion.” Another added grimly, “This is so cruel. Want to end it, but is afraid of heights. The top of a car is good enough; the bushes can break the fall.”
Explaining that only the action would have identified the state it happened, a user wrote, “You could have just posted the video, without the text. We would have known it was Florida.” They added, “She needs to lay off drugs.”
A user joked, “She looks like she has her underwear over her face… like a methed up superhero mask.” Sarcastically, they added, “She was testing her powers.” It is no doubt difficult to explain the logic behind the video but it wouldn’t be so if it wasn’t Florida.
