As if ICE raids were bad enough in the U.S., now it appears ICE agents are enjoying the luxury of a hotel and rounding up landscapers and nannies. Neighborhoods are looking out for their own, though. Many businesses have shared they won’t be serving ICE agents if they come onto their property as a way to stand up for those being detained. Now, an Illinois woman is saying ICE arrived in her neighborhood, and they’re targeting certain types of workers.
TikTok user Left of Centaur posted a video of her experience of ICE agents dangerously close to her own neighborhood. She went on to say that agents are actually staying on a hotel on her very own street about two blocks away. She lives in the suburbs of Chicago and she took the time to alert “village trustees and the village manager president.”
She claims they’re staying there and targeting landscapers working in the area. This is not the first time this has happened. Local nannies were recently targeted by ICE, too. In fact, she said a mother was pulled “from her car outside an elementary school at afternoon pick up” by ICE. Why should children fear their parents suddenly yanked from their car after being picked up from school?
“What is the most passive aggressive action that I can take?” the TikToker asked. She said she already did a drive-by the hotel and noticed there were a lot of SUVs on the property. Commenters gave her a lot of good ideas. One person hilariously stated, “Call the towing company. It would be a shame if all of their cars were towed overnight.”
“Call every landscaping company in your village, tell them everything you just told us,” another suggested. Getting ahead of the game is never a bad idea and it’s totally within her right to do so.
Others have taken action in their own neighborhoods when they sniffed out ICE nearby. One person said, “We are calling the hotel chain and logging our outrage. Hoping that the threat of publicly outing this chain might move the needle,” which is smart. Small businesses are especially hurt by Trump’s economy, and the threat of losing money can push people to take action.
As one person replied, “It has worked at numerous hotels in CA. But we’ve also had people outside hotels banging pots and pans all night, too.” People coming together for a good cause, in my opinion!
