A mother in Douglas County, Georgia, was left heartbroken after her daughter was taken into custody by police officers inside their home late at night. According to the family, the arrest stemmed from a domestic call involving a woman identified as Brianna, who allegedly told police her mug had been broken during an argument with the arrestee. The mother argued that her daughter had been asleep upstairs at the time and accused the responding officers of siding with the complainant, claiming that one of them was personally involved with her. She also shared a video on TikTok, which she believes shows that her daughter had been handled roughly during the arrest, and hopes that Douglas County officials “will be held accountable” for their actions.
Here’s What Happened That Night
In the video, the woman’s daughter can be heard screaming as she is held down in the kitchen while an officer attempts to handcuff her. When the officers instruct her to stand, she repeatedly says she cannot move because her arms are restrained behind her. Two officers then help her up and escort her outside. The mother follows them and continues to protest, asking that her daughter be placed in another patrol car rather than with the officer who she believes used excessive force on her child. However, the officer insisted that that never happened and that the daughter had damaged property during an argument.
As the tension grew, the mother and other family members accused the responding officers of bias, repeatedly referencing “white privilege.” One woman even questioned whether the difference in treatment was “because [Brianna’s] white and we’re all Black over here.” Furthermore, the mother alleged that her daughter, who had recently undergone a C-section, was denied medical care after being taken to jail. In her follow-up comments, she said her daughter’s requests to see a doctor were ignored, adding that jail staff instead tried to give her medication she didn’t want.
Netizens’ Reaction to the Douglas County Woman’s Arrest
Many expressed outrage at what they saw in the video. “If they didn’t witness the destruction of property how can they take her word for what happened,” one person commented. A second said, “This is Messed [sic] up! I’m Livid.” “So sorry y’all are going through this! I’m putting prayers up for y’all 🙏🏽,” a third added. Some were also stunned by the cause of the conflict, writing, “I hope her body is okay physically. All of this over a mug?!”
A few netizens urged them to take legal action, saying, “Lawyer up ASAP.” Other comments read, “File a lawsuit I’m so sick of them getting away with this mess!” and “Sue all of them and the department.”
