Stealing and messing with mail are fairly common crimes, so people choose to have cameras and alarms to prevent them. However, there are not enough security systems for every type of criminal. For example, a person in Texas caught a porch pirate who stole their DoorDash order, but despite having evidence, they can’t do anything to make the responsible opossum pay. Unfortunately, the police can’t do anything about it, but it seems that animal control won’t be able to either.
Redditor ToeCutterATX shared a disturbing experience of outrage they had in their own home on r/Austin. Fortunately, OP didn’t see it firsthand, but they did see it through the cameras they use to monitor their home. The real problem began when this person from Austin, Texas, placed an order on DoorDash, but while waiting for their food from P.Terry’s, a very unusual Porch Pirate stole the food: a opossum. The unusual bald-tailed thief crept in through the front door, measuring each step before taking the bag of food. With the same caution with which it arrived, they dragged it out of the security camera’s frame. After them, the thief left no further traces to reveal its whereabouts.
“They don’t spread rabies! They also don’t share what they find in baggies!” The user turkoosi_aurinko shared some handy information about opossums, highlighting their importance in the food chain and environment. However, many people may be afraid of seeing a possum near their house and could take action that puts the possum in danger.
Other users were clear that this opossum would not let go of that bag of food so easily, but they can be angry about it, as ABWplantEng said: “I wouldn’t even be mad. Hangry, maybe, but not mad.”
In this video, Redditor uluman discovered an explicit declaration of rivalry toward another remarkable food thief in the streets of New York City, stating: “Move over, Pizza Rat.“
Far from being annoyed by this creature stealing food, users’ hearts melted at the sight of such a cute possum. Although OP may not feel the same way, they will need to be more careful in the future. Now, in return, they obviously have an incredible story to tell. Who knows how many more animals stealing food in cities are trying to go viral like the rat and this opossum, but let’s let the internet do its thing.
