More and more often, conservatives are getting bolder in the way they talk about immigrants. It often gets really grim, and the ICE raids only make them worse. Luckily, good people are speaking out against that kind of blind hatred. A teacher in Illinois was tired of hearing how a co-worker at her school talked about immigrants. She decided to finally school him on the reality of immigrants in America and how everything he hears on the news isn’t always the truth.
“When your co-worker makes a comment that leads to a long debacle,” said the caption of DJW’s TikTok video. You can hear her frustrated co-worker in the background saying immigrants are always asking for “help” that we can’t give them. He said he heard on the news the U.S. has been giving money to immigrants instead of helping its own people. He also said Chicago (where they’re located) is a “sanctuary city” and all the “illegal” people are hiding out there.
First, DJW tells her co-worker the news likes to focus on the bad instead of focusing on the whole truth. Immigrants are especially a target for this, as are Black people in the U.S. She asks him, “When did ‘illegals’ become a problem for you?”
He said that this happened on “Day One” when he found out they were “flooding the border,” according to Fox News. No matter what DJW says to this man, however, he tries to interrupt her and insert his own nasty opinions about immigrants. He stands firm on the ground that the military is supposed to be involved in “getting immigrants under control” in major cities.
DJW shows endless patience throughout multiple videos, telling him he doesn’t understand the law. DJW even goes as far as to point out his White forefathers brought “her family” here illegally. So, why is he so focused on immigrants trying to survive?
“This woman must be exhausted. She’s a superstar,” one commenter joked. The fact that it’s a co-worker, too. When you see enough of that on social media and the internet, it’s frustrating when it shows up at work.
“I wonder how many ‘illegals’ he comes across that ACTUALLY affect him,” one person asked. It’s less than zero, that’s for sure. It’s clear her co-worker just doesn’t get it or doesn’t want to accept it. But it’s good someone spoke out against him anyway, even though he may not take all of the wisdom on board.
