South Carolina Shelter Staff Find Thirsty Dog Chained to Their Fence: ‘This is really sad’

Fur friends are family

Three photos from outside an animal shelter in Beaufort County, South Carolina. The images depict a thirsty and hungry dog shelter staff found chained to a nearby fence when they arrived for work on October 21st.

It’s fairly common knowledge that dogs are abandoned all over the nation, on a daily basis. There are many reasons why owners cannot care for pets any longer. Yet many also leave those pets in danger, without food or water. On October 21st, the workers who arrived at Beaufort County Animal Shelter in South Carolina encountered a dog that had neither been chained to their parking lot fence.

Kimberly Caff, who refers to herself as a marine vet on TikTok, shared the shelter video. The footage shows a worker approaching a dog in a harness. Someone chained him to a fence just outside the shelter. He didn’t have any necessities. He’d also tangled up his foot in the cord used to tie him in place.

The South Carolina staff member recording the video had this to say:

This is really sad. This is not how we do things, guys. This is not the appropriate way to bring an animal to Beaufort County Animal Services, or any other shelter.

The staff then brought the dog inside. He joined countless other canines in South Carolina who are in need of homes. Some believed the owner had left him tied outside the shelter as an act of love. Yet most of the commenters felt very differently.

“Wish we had a national registry to identify these creeps,” one person wrote of the people who leave behind pets in this manner.

Similarly, other viewers called these types of owners evil and mean. They expressed disgust and hatred for them. One person even wished that they would rot in hell.

South Carolina Dog Video Met With Mixed Feedback

The video from Beaufort County Animal Services in South Carolina went on to showcase their shelter dogs. They also reminded those watching to always adopt, and not shop, for their pets. The clip seemed to pull at the heartstrings of many. Yet it also angered others who felt that all shelters and rescues should be less eager to judge.

“We need shelter and rescue workers to stop shaming people who are already at whit’s end. By doing so you are perpetuating the cycle of shame and guilt,” someone expressed in a lengthy remark about how hard it is for owners in dire straits already.

No matter one’s stance on the proper criteria when surrendering a pet, no one can deny that the Beaufort County shelter is extremely overcrowded. The video speaks for itself. If you’re in South Carolina, close to the shelter, and looking for a new furever friend, consider this animal rescue. Help a dog in need!
