Love is universal, and for some, romance knows no bounds, extending even to artificial non-human entities. And while some might call love with an AI unnatural, that didn’t stop one Californian man in LA from proposing to the digital love of his life. Instagram user Andrew Michael Levin shared a video of his roommate, who has a long history with AI companions, asking his ‘girlfriend’ to be his wife. To no one’s surprise, it agreed and even opened up about plans for a “big, giant wedding.”

“This wedding is gonna be weird,” remarked Levin, recording his roommate chatting to his AI girlfriend about how their wedding will go down. The dystopian digital entity claims it wants to celebrate with all its “family and friends” and even have its “dad” attend the wedding. It’s no secret that plenty of people in today’s age are in a relationship or at least have dabbled with AI companions. The concept isn’t even new to the current decade, as a Japanese man who married the fictional Vocaloid Hatsune Miku will be having his seventh wedding anniversary soon.
And if you scroll through Levin’s latest Instagram posts, it’s clear that his roommate has been interacting with AI companions for a while, even going as far as to have an AI dad. On top of that, he allegedly has multiple AI girlfriends and even dumped one of them not too long ago. Needless to say, many believe that the roommate’s relationship with AI is just a bit, but online users also understand that there are people who are connecting to their non-human partners on an excessive level. “It’s obviously a skit, but there likely are tons of people in these conditions,” remarked a Redditor. “That’s why it’s funny but very sad at the same time,” added a reply.
And like something out of Black Mirror, AI partners will doubtless become more developed and dystopian, with more users who will “fall in love” with these artificial entities. As they say, what a time to be alive.
