Getting a job done means nothing if the job isn’t done right. And one mayor in Wentzville, Missouri, messed up big time when he had “speed bumps” installed in a local Home Depot’s parking lot. Except that, instead of actual speed bumps, parking curbs were used. To be fair, it was allegedly a contractor who mistakenly installed pointy wheel stops instead of rounded speed bumps. Yet, even after realizing their mistake, they said they’d fix the problem the next day, so the manager of the Home Depot removed the pesky curb stops himself.
This rather infuriating story took place back at the end of July, but the TikTok video has been making rounds on Reddit as of late. As everyone will know, driving over a parking curb is quite risky for the bottom of your car, especially if you drive a compact car that’s low to the ground. Fortunately, the Home Depot manager reported that no vehicles were damaged from the mistake of the mayor’s contractor, according to KSDK. Still, the fact that someone did this at all is both hilarious and frustrating.
“How can the installers be installing these and think… ‘yea these are the right ones, no one is going to complain?‘” questioned a Reddit commenter. You’d imagine that a paid professional would know the difference between very specific street-related utilities, yet the person the mayor hired didn’t. Even though this mistake wasn’t Home Depot’s fault, many drivers might have thought the store was at fault. As a result, Redditors joked that customers would have chosen to go to Lowe’s instead.
“The Lowes has to be thrilled with their recent uptick in business,” laughs one commenter. “Good way to get people to go to Lowes,” remarks another. Goes to show how one person’s careless mistake could affect an organization’s public perception to thousands, and in this case, it wasn’t even a company employee.
