There is no denying the chaos that is happening on the streets. However, children should at least have some sense of security, especially because it is crucial for their emotional and mental development. That is why we cannot imagine the fear these children in Chicago must have felt when they saw ICE dragging their teachers and other staff members out of their daycare center. The impact on these children will be enormous when the people who cared for them are no longer there because of the officers.
Redditor KrautbackSteakHaus shared on r/illinois how ICE officers are having trouble removing a woman from inside a daycare center in Chicago. According to OP, this operation took place in the morning at the Rayito De Sol daycare center in Roscoe Village, Chicago. The agents were not taking just anyone away, as the post description, OP explains that they are taking the teachers and staff of the daycare center, regardless of who they are. This is because, according to the woman who appears in the video fighting with the ICE officers, she says she has papers. So this is not a case of someone undocumented working without permission.
The situation itself is complex, but what upset Redditors the most was that it all happened at a daycare center in the middle of a school day, so very young children witnessed all the chaos and violence.
“This is terrifying. Kids should never witness that level of chaos and intimidation,” commented SuckMyAssYouDumb.
“Truly: untrained masked goons with high powered weapons of war breaking into a daycare full of children. Where are the police? As a citizen I’m incensed but as a parent I’m enraged. How dare they go near children dressed and armed that way?!?” expressed bel1984529.
‘”They haven’t gone far enough” – Child Ra**ist-in-Chief‘ said masked_sombrero, who clearly referred to Donald Trump’s 60 Minutes interview.
Sadly, OP does not have the context of why ICE decided to raid the daycare. However, they added that it is difficult to enter the building because the doors are always locked for security reasons, and only the front desk can grant access. Another thing we cannot be sure of is what will happen to these workers, since there are so many reports of people being taken away by ICE and never seen again. Let’s just hope that the children had a caregiver and that the experience doesn’t affect them too much.
