Many people are trying to encourage support for small businesses and help the local economy. Sometimes, customers are more patient because small companies don’t have the same resources as large ones. Yet, this doesn’t mean that you have to put up with any situation or mistake made by small businesses. However, one business in Los Angeles crossed the line by failing to provide information about an order from the start and is now threatening to doxx the customer for demanding what is fair.
Redditor sadfrenchfry asked for help on r/legal on how to proceed now that a company was harassing them. It all started because OP ordered a t-shirt from that business in September, and the shipment was supposed to take approximately two weeks. OP had no problem with the time frame until the shipping date passed, and the business did not contact them. This was even after OP sent emails to the company to check the status of their shipment. Fed up with the situation not being resolved after two months, OP finally initiated a dispute with their bank, which refunded their money.
Days after OP received their money, the business surprisingly contacted them, sending the tracking number for the supposed T-shirt. But almost immediately, this Los Angeles business began threatening to doxx OP. In subsequent emails, the employees said they had all of OP’s information.
Most Reddit users said a tracking number is useless because it doesn’t prove any shipment; it only shows the company printed the label. The employees may have wanted to pressure OP into paying for the T-shirt again, after the bank took the money back after two months.
“A tracking number does not mean that a package is inbound; it just means that a label has been printed. I’d be curious what the tracking record says,” said GolfballDM. To this, OP responded by saying that the tracking number is invalid.
“Wow, now that’s shady! And illegal. But considering most banks only allow 60 days on average to dispute, I totally understand why you’d file a claim. What a shady, shady business! Sorry that happened to you,” explained BooBoosgrandma.
Most users agree that OP should hire a lawyer as soon as possible because of the threats. In addition, OP has all the necessary evidence, as the employees at the company left everything in extremely disrespectful emails. So OP definitely has a case that will be easy to win.
