No matter how hard some teachers may try, they’ll never be able to escape pop culture references in the classroom. Whether kids are yelling 6-7 or quoting the latest K-pop Demon Hunters episode, their teachers are at the center of the latest trends. One Alabama educator got a lesson in just how intertwined some students are in the entertainment world when her students asked her a hilarious question.

The Alabama teacher took to her TikTok account to share the story, revealing that one of her students gave her a laugh when they asked her why there was a photo of Hollywood star Pedro Pascal hanging on the wall.

Pascal is a huge name in the entertainment world, starring in films such as The Fantastic Four and Gladiator II, as well as TV shows like The Last Of Us, The Mandalorian, and Game of Thrones. So, the teacher was seemingly taken aback when the student pointed to a portrait of literary icon Edgar Allan Poe, writer of gothic stories such as The Tell-Tale Heart and The Raven.

The video quickly took off and began to make waves on TikTok with nearly 2 million views, 353,000 likes, and nearly 5,000 comments. Some people revealed that they’ll never be able to look at Pedro Pascal the same way again. The teacher then replied, “Sorry. It’s technically my students fault, kinda? But you have to admit, the kid had a point,” she said.

“Can’t unsee it. Not mad about it,” one person wrote in the comment section. “I’m suddenly personally offended that a Poe biopic starring Pedro Pascal doesn’t exist,” another claimed. “Pedro Pascal will now be writing, directing, and starring as Poe,” joked a third person. “Well now we must petition for an Edgar Allan Poe movie with Pedro as Edgar. maybe Guillermo del Toro can take it on,” suggested a fourth comment.

Meanwhile, the Alabama teacher was on board with the idea of Pascal starring as Poe in a future film. “Who do we call? How do we make this happen? Whose people can call his people? Do we need to start a petition?” she jokingly stated in a follow-up video.

Perhaps this viral video will eventually make its way to Pedro Pascal himself and he’ll show interest in portraying the legendary writer on the big screen. Of course, his fans seem more than excited by the idea, and to think it could all be because of an Alabama middle school student.
