A woman working quietly inside the lounge area of the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel says she endured an extremely uncomfortable and frightening situation after an intoxicated stranger sat beside her and began acting aggressively toward her. She had been focused on her laptop with her headphones on, but once he got her attention, she took them off, thinking he simply needed to ask a quick question.
But within a few minutes of talking to him, the man started rambling and bragging about how “amazing” he was and insisting she didn’t understand how smart he supposedly was. When she tried to respond politely, telling him that she was “happy” for him and that she hoped he would “continue to do good,” he accused her of being sarcastic. He then insisted that he was “three steps ahead” of her, claiming that his IQ was so high it would make her “head explode.” Even though she didn’t believe a word of what he was saying, she chose to stay calm and go along with him because the situation already felt unstable.
Things Became More Uncomfortable
As their interaction continued, the man’s mood shifted again. When she gently told him to have a good night, he suddenly erupted, saying she didn’t mean it and claiming that she wouldn’t care if he “got hit by a bus.” He even accused her of secretly wishing it would happen.
The stranger grew more agitated with every passing second, and she realized there was no safe way to move away from him because he had been holding a glass the entire time, and she couldn’t predict how he might use it if he became any more upset. The woman also claimed that off-camera, the man had even made strange statements that set off every alarm bell she had, including telling her friend, who was sitting next to her, that her smile made him “not wanna do anything bad” to her. But despite all that, she still did the best she could to not trigger him by keeping her tone polite, maintaining eye contact, and staying still.
When he finally stepped far enough away for her to feel she had even a small opportunity to move, she immediately got up from her table and rushed to the front desk to ask for help. As she walked, the man suddenly sprinted toward her, and that was when her friend physically stepped in to block him.
How the Hotel Responded
In a follow-up video she uploaded on TikTok, the woman said that after she reached the front desk and reported everything, the man ran off down a staircase. Hotel staff attempted to chase after him, but weren’t able to catch him. Eventually, the police arrived, took a report, and even escorted her and her friend to their car for safety.
However, the woman claimed she would not be returning to the establishment because some hotel employees may have noticed that something was wrong during her encounter with the strange man, but still chose not to intervene. She also said that when she asked the hotel staff what action would be taken since they failed to catch the man, she was told she would have to file a police report on her own.
What Netizens Are Saying About the Encounter
In the comments under her video, viewers felt that the situation had been disturbing from start to finish. One person said, “The whole time my insides are screaming DANGER.” A second wrote, “This man is straight up dangerous. It’s evident in his voice that he hates women.”
One commenter pointed out how unpredictable he seemed, saying she gave him “NOTHING” yet he created conflict out of thin air, which is why the moment felt so unsafe. Someone joked, “He’s never been 3 steps ahead of anyone,” while another added, “He sounds like all his personalities were drunk.”
