Not everyone is born with the gift of grace. In a country that once boasted acceptance, many people choose to stand on the wrong side of history. A recent video on Reddit proves just how far America has fallen, especially in the respect we show those who work hard for others. Los Angeles rideshare drivers deal with their share of disgruntled passengers, but this man may have just become internet-famous for the wrong reason.
The Reddit video drops viewers straight into the action. In the first few seconds, we see a visibly angry passenger berating the Los Angeles driver, who is the picture of calm. “Stupid, you don’t speak English. You’re not supposed to work. You’re not supposed to work here. You don’t speak English, go to your country,” the man says. He continues, saying, “Don’t stay here and drive wrong. I should call ICE for you. I should call the police, the ICE.”
As he picks up his phone, assumedly to make a phone call, he adds, “Call you to the world, to your country,” before getting out of the car with his equally angry partner, who slams the door. Before she does, the man says, “You’re stupid, let’s act like a rebel. That’s accurate, man.” If his dialogue sounds confusing, that’s because he’s speaking broken English.
The comments on the video exploded over this fact. It’s one thing to threaten ICE; it’s another to have an accent from another country, also threatening to start a federal raid. Some viewers were confused at the lack of forethought. “Pathetic how evil people are. People who do these types of things to others have a hard time living in their own skin and are generally miserable,” says one Reddit user. “Sorry this happens, and it’s the dumbing down of the public, because the fade was to be unrepentantly mean and closed-minded, which in itself, unevolved, and shouts to everyone, ‘I have a low IQ, which makes me say things like this.'”
