It’s rare for locals to fight back against ICE, but it’s becoming more common. As oppression from border patrol becomes more prevalent across America, some are finding clever ways to outsmart their lawlessness. One California woman recorded a recent interaction with border patrol in which she showed no mercy and eventually won the verbal battle. Many are praising her fighting spirit, calling the interaction “amazing.”
The video opens with the woman asking the border patrol agent, “Can I see your ID?” As he slows to a stop, he says, “How come you’re hating on me?” As he leans out the vehicle’s window. She responds with, “You look brown, so I’d like to see your ID.” The border patrol agent, visibly annoyed, says, “Okay, are you an immigration uh inspector or are you a border patrol agent or customs?”
The woman recording doesn’t miss a beat as she fires back, “Trust me, I work for someone. I don’t need to identify myself. Identify yourself.” At this point, the agent looks defeated. She presses on, saying, “I need to see your ID. Where were you born, sir? Where were you born?” As she speaks over the border patrol agent, he tries to defend himself by motioning to his “full uniform,” implying professional status.
To this, the woman responds, “Where were you born with that kind of last name?” In the most hypocritical of twists, the border patrol agent says, “Okay, alright, so then you’re being a racist?” After a beat to let the statement sink in, the woman recording says, “Yeah, isn’t that something that you do? You don’t think that being border patrol is racist? You don’t think that hunting humans is racist? Because it is.”
As the agent drives off in silence after failing to find a response, the video ends. Viewers on Reddit are applauding the back-and-forth and commenting on the ignorance of border patrol and ICE agents. “He can’t cry racism if he’s the one holding the pitchfork,” one Reddit user comments. “Lmaooo, the way you see his gears turning, trying to figure out how to respond. Hopefully this inspires a little introspection,” another says.
