The United States is currently undergoing a major focus on immigrants and deportation. It’s already affected so many lives, and in some cases, unfairly so. What’s even worse is that some people are taking it upon themselves to turn in people they deem to be illegal immigrants to authorities. In Provo, Utah, two women working for H&R Block were reportedly discovered to be handing out the tax information of some of their immigrant clients to ICE and using the reward money to go on a cruise.
The above video was posted to TikTok and explains how two women, Eva Elmer and Susie Cheney, in Provo, Utah, allegedly took the addresses and ITN numbers from their immigrant clients and reported them to ICE. The two women reportedly work for H&R Block, a tax preparation agency that helps their clients file various documents for the tax season.
To do that, the person preparing your file needs access to your personal information, including your Social Security number. According to one commentator, if the allegations are true, H&R Block itself can be implicated, saying, “My brother works at H&R Block seasonally and he confirmed that is illegal and H&R Block could potentially be implicated. TikTok do your thing!“
Provo H&R Block Employees Reportedly Dox Clients to ICE
According to the woman who posted the allegations to TikTok, @karressmarie4444, Elmer and Cheney illegally shared the information with ICE in exchange for reward money. After allegedly receiving the money, the two women used the funds to go on vacation, booking a cruise.
There are many replies that condemn the women’s actions, with some even calling for more extreme action, saying, “they need to be charged and convicted,” and “they need to be charged and convicted.” Realistically, the information was meant to be confidential and, unless there is a genuine reason to report anything to the authorities, shouldn’t have been shared.
Other people were more focused on the fact that the women worked at H&R Block, with so many of them using it on a yearly basis. Various comments were in a similar vein to, “Don’t use H & R Block! Add to the boycott list! It’s dangerous to file with H&R Block,” and “I will NEVER FILE TAXES AGAIN WITH H&R in my LIFE.”
H&R Block itself has not made any comments on the situation, though anything can truly be happening behind the scenes. According to @karressmarie444, actions are being put in place to move forward with informing the company and more.
