Subway Passenger Clashes With MTA Worker Over Citi Bike on Crowded New York Train: ‘He Didn’t Deserve That’

He asked for it

In a packed New York City subway car, one passenger, who clearly could have had a far calmer commute if he had chosen to stay quiet, was captured on camera tussling with an MTA worker to keep his Citi Bike on the train. According to the TikTok user who posted the video, the rider had been “bugging out and screaming” for a few stops. The MTA worker reportedly tried to calm him down, but when the man refused to stop shouting, the employee shifted his attention toward removing the bike.

In the shared clip, the rider clung to the bike as if it were completely non-negotiable, insisting that he had every right to talk and that he was not doing anything wrong. However, things became more physical when the train doors opened to let passengers out. The MTA worker used that moment to try pulling the bike onto the platform, but the rider held on with such force that he fell backward onto the floor when the worker released his grip.

Within seconds, the man scrambled back up, repositioned himself near the opposite door, and wrapped one hand tightly around a pole, clearly signaling that he had no intention of surrendering the bike under any circumstances. This did not discourage the worker in the slightest, and he moved in to confront the passenger again. Probably sensing that the situation was about to get even more aggressive, the other passengers seated close to the area immediately moved away to avoid getting caught in the confrontation.

Eventually, when the doors opened again, the MTA worker finally succeeded in dragging the bike out onto the platform before attempting to escort the passenger off the train as well.

How People Online Are Reacting to the New York Subway Confrontation

Netizens had a lot to say, and many jumped straight to the core issue – bikes on trains. One person wrote, “They should ban bikes on the train.” Another added, “A bike belongs in a park, not on the streets or subway.” Someone else said, “Bringing a bike on the train is the most stupid thing I hate…”

Others questioned the man’s decisions altogether, with one commenter saying, “Why he didn’t just ride the bike to his destination I hate when ppl have bikes on the train like boo that’s ur transportation right there 🤣.”

Still, not everyone sided with the MTA worker. One person insisted that the passenger “didn’t deserve that.” Another wrote, “If the guy was acting crazy thts different but im not moving my bike because you don’t like it I don’t like a lot of things [sic].” A third commented, “People move furniture on the damn train. I hate a bike on the train but they ain’t have to do him like that.”
