Outrage in Texas After Shoppers Fake Angel Tree Charity for Views: ‘This Is Destroying Our Society’

I can’t imagine being so heartless

A trend is taking the world by storm, and it’s sweeter than ever: Donating to Angel Trees. These trees give donors the ability to shop for a child or family in need over the Christmas season. Though many people use this in a positive way, every good deed comes with some bag eggs. A Texas shopper recently witnessed a strange display that started out looking like an act of kindness. Quickly, he was clued into what was really happening and was shocked by what he discovered.

Misha Brown (@yourbestiemisha) posted a TikTok sharing what started out as a positive experience when he was at a grocery store. He went to Walmart to buy a blanket when he saw two young women recording themselves for social media. He heard one of the women say, “OMG this kid is gonna love his Christmas!” Misha said they had a cart full of things and realized the two women were recording themselves doing an Angel Tree video. Now, however you feel about people posting sweet things for clout, it’s always a good thing when people decide to give back to those in need.

But things drastically took a turn for the worse. Misha originally thought it was a “nice trend” that truly helps people. However, when he walked to the end of the aisle, he noticed the women were missing. They abandoned their cart full of gifts and didn’t come back for it. It was then that he realized they recorded the video for clout. They did it just to make themselves look better only for social media. He said he was shocked that the women filmed themselves and then “ditched it and didn’t follow through.” You have to be incredibly heartless to do something like that when so many people are desperately in need.

Misha thought he would do the right thing and purchase the cart full of groceries so he could donate it to the respective family in need. However, he couldn’t locate an angel tree card in the cart. Hopefully, they didn’t grab a card off of a real angel tree and then decide not to follow through, leaving the family with nothing over the holidays. Misha had to sit with the worry that there’s “some underprivileged kid who’s not gonna get what they asked for because these two vapid creatures decided they were too selfish and they only cared about themselves.” It’s possible they staged the entire thing, and Misha said, “Let’s hope that’s the case.”

The fact that people pretend to do a nice deed just for the sake of social media is truly a disgusting habit. It shows how far people will take things to appear a certain way on social media. As one commenter shared on Misha’s video, “Social media is destroying people and our society.” Another person stated, “Every day, I fear the lack of empathy in this world more and more.” The good news is, there are still kind hearts out there. Hopefully, more and more will show themselves this holiday season when families need it the most.
