Obnoxious Colorado Neighbor ‘Deliberately’ Shines Blinding ‘Guard Tower Spotlight’ Into Next-Door Bedroom: ‘Who Are These Lunatics?’

They must think they’re a lightkeeper

“Loving thy neighbor as thyself” becomes an increasingly difficult challenge when they are keeping you up at night, whether with sound or light pollution. And for one resident in Colorado, it was the latter, with their next-door neighbor shining an extremely blinding and blight light into their bedroom window. Granted, the bulb is rotating, but the light is so bright it’s definitely bound to keep anyone up, even with their eyes closed.

Our neighbor’s light flashes all night directly into our bedroom

“Our neighbor’s light flashes all night directly into our bedroom,” the annoyed homeowner remarked on r/mildlyinfuriating. Attached to their post was a video of what they were complaining about, and it looks more than mildly disturbing. You might have thought the neighbor was a lightkeeper or something with how wildly bright their spinning lighthouse-esque light is. “They have a fast revolving guard tower spotlight on their house!! Who are these lunatics?” exclaims one commenter. OP responded by saying the neighbor works at a correctional facility, so that might have something to do with the light.

Whether or not the rotating guard light is a freebie from their workplace, putting it on one’s porch to blind any nearby neighbors is beyond unnecessary and inconsiderate. One commenter suggested OP put their post in r/extremelyinfuriating instead. “Light pollution is mildly infuriating (too brighter light), this is deliberately obnoxious,” they state. “Light and sound pollution are not treated nearly as severely as they should be,” agreed another.

One Redditor commented on how such powerful lighting can also negatively affect the nearby wildlife; for instance, birds will start chirping because they’re confused, making a bad situation even worse. A response added that fireflies won’t shine, and a beautiful night sky becomes difficult to see when so much light is polluting the area. Environmental concerns aside, it’s just plain infuriating and negatively affects the neighborhood.

Besides suggesting using a mirror to reflect a light back in retaliation, many commenters compel OP to show their post’s clip to the neighbor. And if that doesn’t work out, calling the police might be necessary. The homeowner said they’d try to talk things over with them first, so hopefully, that’ll resolve things and make sleeping at night less unbearable.
