No breakup has ever been pretty; in fact, most of them are ugly. Some breakups are so ugly, they nearly take lives, such is the case for one man from Massachusetts, who chose to break up with his girlfriend during a car ride. Unfortunately, the ex-girlfriend decided to lash out in the most dangerous way possible by grabbing the wheel while the car was running at 72 MPH on a highway.
The rather scary incident happened to Reddit user Tango_Actual from Hampshire, Massachusetts, who was driving home with his then-girlfriend back on November 18. The man discovered his girlfriend had been secretly texting another man and deleting the messages. He also claims his cheating ex met up with the third party at least once, using his car. “I broke up with her on the spot,” he said, adding that despite everything, he chose to drive her home as a courtesy. That decision nearly ended in disaster.
As you can see on the Reddit user’s dashcam video, which he only uploaded recently, the pair were arguing on the highway during the breakup, and the woman allegedly yanked the steering wheel as the vehicle traveled at 72 MPH. Thankfully, the man was able to save the car (and their lives). “I immediately went silent,” the man recalled. Rather than escalating the situation, he says he carefully drove to a nearby construction zone where a town police detail was stationed.
State Police then transported the woman to their barracks, local shorthand for a state police station, so she could arrange a ride home. It appears no charges were filed against her, according to the man, but he later sought and obtained a restraining order and posted the video just now for educational purposes and documentation in the case of a belated legal battle.
The Drama Continues…
While the breakup was more or less a month ago, it appears the rather dangerous ex-girlfriend still haunts the Massachusetts man. In the aftermath, the man says his ex has reversed the narrative entirely, accusing him of cheating and even claiming she traveled alone on her birthday, an allegation he strongly denies.
He also claims there is more to the dashcam video footage from before the near-crash where the ex-girlfriend pleaded with him not to leave, repeatedly insisting, “She didn’t want to lose me.” At one point, the Massachusetts man even claims that his ex-girlfriend even threatened to jump out of the moving car and opened the door at highway speed.
Meanwhile, people online were praising the Massachusetts man not just for saving the car, but also for having the maturity not to lash out against his ex-girlfriend. “You’re a better man than I am. I’d have sent this clip to her family, friends, and posted it everywhere unblurred because I strongly believe people can only change when they’re at their lowest,” according to a commenter, with another commending, “10/10 driving skills in that recovery.”
