A woman in Indiana struggled with pain for an excruciating six months. After a second doctor observed her, she was shocked to learn that she had been grossly misdiagnosed and, therefore, untreated.
The heartbreaking and infuriating story was shared on TikTok by Bonnie Lee. She explained that she has struggled with a bulge since spring. Initially, a doctor diagnosed her with a swollen lymph node, and he even drained the site. In retrospect, Bonnie isn’t sure what exactly the doctor drained at the time.
For months, Bonnie suffered from excruciating pain. While it was mild at times, and the bulge got smaller too, she still struggled heavily. In December, finally, things changed.
After having an appointment with her OB, she was told she needed an ultrasound. When she arrived to have the ultrasound, doctors told her that her cyst was gone. Three days later, however, the bulge was back, along with the pain.
For two hours, the Indiana woman waited at an ER for an ultrasound tech that never came. That might have been a blessing in disguise, as a doctor in a second ER immediately noticed something was wrong.
After hearing her story, the second doctor ordered a CT scan. He had attempted to press on the bulge, which led to Bonnie suffering from severe pain. When the doctor observed the CT scan, he concluded that what Bonnie had was a stuck and strangulated femoral hernia, not a swollen lymph node.
Hernia Repaired, Reactions
Bonnie finally found what had been causing her pain. After several attempts to push the hernia back, which only caused her even greater suffering, the doctor concluded that she needed surgery.
Doctors successfully repaired her hernia, and Bonnie, while in pain, at last has gotten rid of her torture. She, however, is angry and exhausted after half a year of unbearable, untreated, and misdiagnosed pain.
Users sympathized with her, with many of them being victims of the same terrible situation.
“Omg! This makes me so mad! They never listen to women,” one user commented. Another one said, “Was misdiagnosed for 18 months- ended up having open heart surgery in 2021.” A third one added, “Doctors don’t know our bodies like we know our bodies.”
Hopefully, Bonnie’s recovery will go as swiftly as possible. At least she can rest assured that her suffering is over.
