One would think that Christmas is the time for being nice with one another, practicing forgiveness, and just letting people mind their own business. Well, as you can imagine, that doesn’t seem to apply to ICE agents. Not long ago, a group of these so-called peace enforcers arrested a father in Yakima, Washington. However, this wasn’t enough for ICE, as the agents also decided to steal the man’s groceries after detaining him, probably ruining a whole family’s Christmas.
The footage comes from the people_over_papers account on Instagram. There, we can see a group of at least four ICE agents approaching a man and putting him in cuffs. You can hear the ICE members asking the man in Spanish about his name. Then, the one filming asks, also in Spanish, if the victim could share any number to contact his family. The man doesn’t give out any number, but says his name is Emilio.
Here, the ICE officers start going through the man’s shopping cart and proceed to grab the groceries. The truly shocking and unexpected part is that it seems these ICE agents have been on an arresting spree lately. The woman, who is recording, continues to ask for the victim’s wife’s phone number. The agent says, “We’ll let him call,” but the woman says, “No. You won’t. You didn’t let my husband call, and he’s in Mexico right now.” Meaning that this particular ICE group has already arrested other people in Yakima. When the woman asks if these agents arrested her husband, the masked individual just nods and gives a “thumbs up” gesture.
When the camera turns back to the other agents, you can see how the shopping cart is already empty, as the men have already put the groceries inside the trunk of one of their vehicles. They could have returned them to the store, but no, they decided to take them for themselves.
The woman, angry, continues to yell at the ICE members, claiming how it is low to do this during the holidays. The worst comes just as the last agent is entering the vehicle, as he looks at the camera and says, “Merry Christmas.”
As you can imagine, people were livid after watching the video. They shamed the officers for arresting this man, whose status at the time is uncertain, meaning it could have been another random arrest.
“These men make me sick,” commented one person.
“The audacity of that person saying ‘Merry Christmas’ when they’re ruining someone else’s Christmas and life,” commented another user.
It is really sad to see these things happen during the holidays. We know that ICE members are among the most heartless individuals in the country, but this is just a new low for them.
