You really should not underestimate the level of grossness and poor hygiene some people are willing to tolerate. A recent viral video from an influencer in North Carolina has proven that point in a way many viewers wish they had never seen. The creator, who goes by the username lawnanswers, sparked widespread disgust after revealing his long-standing habit involving coffee cups and cleanliness. The influencer explained that he is an avid coffee drinker and consumes coffee daily. However, alongside this routine, he admitted to another habit that immediately alarmed viewers: he does not wash his coffee cup. According to him, he only rinses the cup with water after finishing his coffee, never properly washing it with soap. He described this as normal for him and suggested that the coffee cup had become “seasoned” over time.
Curious about whether this habit had consequences, the North Carolina influencer decided to test his cup for bacteria. In the video, he swabbed several different areas of the same coffee cup and placed the samples onto separate petri dishes. To establish a baseline, he also prepared a control petri dish using the plain water he typically uses to rinse the cup.
The control dish showed no bacterial growth, which initially seemed reassuring. He then showed a second petri dish that contained water from his dog’s water bowl. That dish displayed significant bacterial growth, which he acknowledged but seemed unfazed by. The real focus, however, was on the petri dishes swabbed directly from his coffee cups.
One petri dish came from swabbing the rim of the cup near where his mouth touches it. This dish showed noticeable bacterial growth, though not as extreme as the dog bowl sample. Another swab was taken from underneath the coffee cup slider, which also showed bacteria. The influencer dismissed these results, saying the bacteria levels were not much worse than expected.
The most concerning sample came from inside the cup itself, swabbed shortly after he finished drinking. That petri dish also showed bacterial growth. Despite the visual evidence, the North Carolina influencer laughed it off and showed little concern. He did not indicate any plans to stop using unwashed coffee cups or to change his routine.
Online reactions were swift and intense. Many viewers said they were completely grossed out by the experiment and urged him to wash his cups immediately. One commenter wrote, “Dude. That was a lot of bacteria. A lot. Wash the freaking cup.” Others expressed disbelief that anyone would continue drinking from a coffee cup after seeing such results.
Some users took issue with his description of the cup as “seasoned,” arguing that the term did not apply. One person wrote, “Calling it seasoned does not make sense. Wash your cups. I drink coffee every day and wash my glass between pours because I want the full flavor of the coffee I’m drinking. Leaving coffee cups dirty does not improve anything.”
